I just finished Reality Check by Peter Abrahams. All I can say is that the cover does not do it justice. Cody is a junior in high school and Clea Weston, the most popular girl at school is his girlfriend. She is very rich and Cody is not. Cody lost his mother to cancer and his father is an alcoholic that doesn't have much time for him. Clea is the one that gives Cody a purpose in life. He is struggling to make good grades while also getting football scouts to notice him hoping to obtain a college scholarship. Cody doesn't really know what he wants to do except play football. When a torn ACL shatters his dream, Cody begins to slack off of school and grades plummet. Clea is still the woman of Cody's dreams, but her father interfered in their relationship and sent her and her horse, Bud, off to boarding school in Vermont. He felt Cody was keeping her from being successful on her own.
Watching the news, Cody finds out that Clea is missing and the school is searching for her in Vermont. She apparently was thrown from her horse and the authorities believe she is dazed or unconscious in the woods. Then, Cody receives a letter that she wrote on the day of her disappearance. Clea reveals clues that 'things are not always what they seem'. This is a story of friendship, love, and the extent that one would go to for those one cares about. There are a few surprises through the book, but overall, I give it four out of five stars. What are you reading?
