For those of you who do not know about the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins; it is a book of dystopian fiction about a futuristic society where the capital is surrounded by 12 districts. (We don't know what happened to the 13th district until later.) Each district has a function to fulfill for the capital. The 12th district's responsibility is to provide enough coal for the capital.
Every year, children between the age of 13-18 have to put their name in a lottery to be drawn out to compete in the Hunger Games. There is one boy and one girl picked to represent each district with a fight to the death. The boy or girl who wins receives a lot for her district and a new home to live in. The capital has the game televised all over the 12 districts so each home can root for their representative. The Everdeen family consists of Katniss, 16; Prim, 13, and their mother. Their father died a few years earlier. Katniss had to take on the role of provider for the family since her father's death. Katniss has been taught by Gale to hunt and fish. She used her kills to barter and trade for other items her family needed. As the story unfolds, Prim's name is drawn out of the lottery and Katniss volunteers to take her place knowing that Prim would not be able to survive in the wilderness with other people hunting her, waiting to strike her down in a duel to the death. Also chosen is Peeta, the baker's son, who has had a silent crush on Katniss ever since they were both little. The adventure takes off as they prepare to fight in the games. Not since the Twilight series has there been so much anticipation or talk about a series. This series appeals to all ages and both genders.
Tell me what you liked most about the series, the least, and who you want to see Katniss end up with. She is one, feisty person. I give the series 5 out of 5 stars. Tell me what you think.
